معنی نام اَوِستا در زبان لاتین

نامهای اَوِستا و اوپستاک در اصل در خود اوستایی و سنسکریت مترادف با وِدا معنی دانش ستایش دینی را می دهند:

अवेति verb aveti {ave} understand

उपेति verb upeti {upe} understand

स्तुवीते verb 2 stuvite {stu} praise [hymn]

ولی نظر به واژۀ ترکی ده ده قورقود (پدر آتش مقدس یا پدر تقدیس آتش) که نزد اوتیان اران (پرستندگان الهۀ اجاق خانوادگی اران)، شاخه جنوبی مردم آتش پرست خزر، رایج بوده است و نام کتاب اوستا-شاهنامه گونۀ ایشان است، می توان حدس زد که نام اوستای مادها (به مرکزیت رغه و گزنا) نیز در جوار آنان در زبان لاتین به صورت آوِ-اِستا یا آوِ-وِستا به معنی تقدیس الهۀ آتش گرفته میشده است. چون شکل ظاهری نام اوستا بیش از آنکه به اُپستاک (پایه و بنیاد و متن اصلی یا دانش ستایش دینی) شبیه باشد به اَوِ-اِستا/اَوِ-وِستای لاتین هم شبیه است. هومر هم از اَوِ- ِاستا (اَوِ-وِستا) به عنوان سرودهای مربوط الهۀ آتش یاد کرده است. کاتولیک ها بر قیاس با آن سرود دینی به نام اَوِ-ماریا ساخته اند:

"Hestia, in the high dwellings of all, both deathless gods and men who walk on earth, you have gained an everlasting abode and highest honour: glorious is your portion and your right. And you, slayer of Argus, Son of Zeus and Maia, messenger of the blessed gods, bearer of the golden rod, giver of good, be favourable and help us, you and Hestia, the worshipful and dear.
