The meaning of Britain (Pritani)
The names Britain and Pritani mean "Land of the beautiful Goddess":
The Celtic goddess Brigantia can mean the nice goddess, therefore, it was synonymous with Pritan[d]ia.
In Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig)
• Brèagha[n]– Nice / sweet / lovely
dea (thea): goddess
Pretanī (Britain, the land of pretty goddess, Brigantia)
pretty (adj.)
Middle English pratie "cunning, crafty, clever" (c. 1300 as a surname), from Old English prættig (West Saxon), pretti (Kentish), *prettig (Mercian) "cunning, skillful, artful, wily, astute," from prætt, *prett "a trick, wile, craft," from Proto-Germanic *pratt- (source also of Old Norse prettr "a trick," prettugr "tricky;" Frisian pret, Middle Dutch perte, Dutch pret "trick, joke," Dutch prettig "sportive, funny," Flemish pertig "brisk, clever"), a word of unknown origin.
philologist Hervás y Panduro proposed their link to the Celtic languages, in which the root *tan or *taín means department or region. "In Irish, tan (genitive, tain) expresses the idea of country, territory."
Goddess Brittania (Brigantia):
Celtic goddess: A pre-Christian goddess in Gallo-Roman and Romano-British culture, whose name means “The Exalted One” or “The Nice One,” derived from the Celtic root *brigantī. She is associated with power, victory, war, and healing, and was often likened to Roman goddesses such as Minerva and Victoria. She is considered closely related to the Irish goddess—and later saint—Brigid (Brigit, Bríd, Brit).
Goddess Britannia first appeared on Roman coins during the reign of Emperor Hadrian around AD 119.
