ریشهٔ سنسکریتی واژهٔ تاجیک

نظر به اینکه عنوان زبان دری تاجیکان از دربیک (دارندگان شراب گیاه هئومه، پارسیان دروپیکی) گرفته شده است، این میرساند که منشأ محلی نام تاجیک با تِجَس (تِجه) در سنسکریت به معنی دارای عصارهٔ انرژی بخش عالی پیوند داشته است:
